Your Word for 2025: A Path to Joy, Growth, and Abundance

Each new year brings with it a sense of renewal, an opportunity to pause, reflect, and consider the path ahead. While some dive headfirst into resolutions or grand plans, I’ve found a gentler, more intuitive approach works best for me: choosing a word to guide my year.

This process started a few years ago, and it has transformed how I view goal-setting and personal growth. Rather than rigid resolutions that demand immediate results, selecting a word offers a touchstone, a way to navigate life’s ebbs and flows with intention and grace.

The Beauty of Choosing a Word

In my first year of practising this, I over thought it. The pressure to choose the perfect word—one that embodied everything I hoped to be—felt overwhelming. By the following year, however, I let go of that angst. I allowed the process to be playful and intuitive, and that made all the difference.

Now, I trust that the right word will find me when the time is right. It might take a few days, weeks, or even the entire month of January. And that’s okay. There’s no rush, no rule that says the word must be cemented on the 1st of January. I sometimes notice a few words coming in so I sit with this, trying them on like new shoes, seeing which one fits best and feels most aligned.

Giving Yourself Grace

This softer approach has taught me the power of self-compassion. For years, I chased New Year’s resolutions that, frankly, didn’t fit who I truly was. I’d craft this idealised version of myself—running 5km daily, waking up at 5 am, or committing to a diet that stripped joy from food. By mid-February, I’d feel disheartened, as if I’d failed.

But the truth is, I’m not a runner, and that’s perfectly fine. I love walking in nature, hiking, and breathing in fresh air. These activities nurture my soul and help me feel grounded. Realising this freed me from unrealistic expectations and allowed me to embrace what truly brings me joy. So, instead of striving for a “perfect” version of myself, I lean into the version of me that’s authentic, evolving, and imperfectly human.

The Process of Choosing

When choosing my word, I don’t over analyse or force it. Instead, I rely on intuition, trust, and a connection to something greater than myself. Whether you believe in the universe, spirit guides, or simply your inner wisdom, you can invite that energy to guide you.

For 2025, I’m still waiting for my word to reveal itself. A few possibilities are floating around, and I’m sitting with them. Some resonate more than others, and that’s part of the process. I know that when the right word lands, I’ll feel it in my core. And it’s a deeply personal thing for me so I generally don’t share my word, maybe with my family and a couple close friends. I invite you to lean in and feel what part of the process, if any, are aligned for you.

Why It Works

A single word acts as a compass. It’s not about ticking off a to-do list but about having an anchor amidst life’s unpredictability. The word you choose can inspire, challenge, and support you in navigating your year with intention.

For instance, last year my word was embrace. This word really allowed for me to lean on it in challenging times as a reminder that these experiences were showing up to remind me that I have come here to learn, grow and feel the full spectrum of being human. I had the choose to fall victim to circumstance or embrace the lesson that was unfolding. This required an enormous amount of faith and trust and many many internal conversations with my angelic team, my guides, archangels, ascended masters and also earth angels, human form of mentors. Each brought lessons and opportunities I couldn’t have foreseen. These words reminded me to lean into growth, even when it was uncomfortable, and to trust that challenges are part of the journey.

A Year of Possibility

As I look ahead to 2025, I feel a sense of openness. I know there will be growth cycles, challenges, opportunities, and abundant joy. I don’t need a resolution to prove my worth or success. Instead, I’m here for it all, trusting that my word, when it comes, will guide me through whatever the year has in store.

So, what about you? Have you chosen a word before? Do you prefer resolutions, rituals, or another way of welcoming the new year? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Whatever you choose, may it align with your heart and bring you peace, growth, and fulfilment.
